In Hungary, 71% of the population lives in cities, compared to 75% in the European Union. Great cities provide good conditions for the everyday life of their citizens: a wide range of job opportunities, a rich supply of services and goods, a multitude of cultural offers, etc. Poorly managed urban development can lead to a number of challenges: severe mobility problems, pollution, deteriorating health, growing social inequalities, lack of affordable housing... These are only some of the challenges city leaders face on a daily basis. In urban development all aspects are interrelated – it is impossible to focus on individual developments; integrated solutions are needed that build on each other. The national and EU level support systems of urban development initiatives also promote such an approach – obtaining funds for development projects requires the use of a genuinely integrated approach. And, to make it even more complex, cities need integrated solutions that are accepted and even supported by the citizens.
